Guess what this song is about? It’s about funneling the fundamentally revolutionary spirit of marooned slaves to fight capitalism and the modern day slavery system. Due to the position of Black folks in civil society and due to the necessity of the system to act parasitic upon the Black body, any struggle that takes up the cause of the marooned slave is bound to be one that is fundamentally revolutionary at it’s core when compared to other struggles. It is through this framework that I propose we advance our struggles, for in it is the power to expose the fundamentally contradictory nature of capitalism and capitalist hegemony as it exists in civil society.

So yea, I’m talk about chopping off heads of oppressors with machetes and rocking it like militant as fuck maroon communities did. In this song I mentioned Quilombo dos Palmares and Zumbi dos Palmares. Quilombo dos Palmares means war camp and Zumbi means zombie. Zumbi and Quilombo dos Palmares referred to a Brazilian marooon camp of militant ex-slaves and their valiant leader, whom very much slaughtered slave masters and planned and executed guerilla tactics to fight against the system of slavery. I also mentioned Nat Turner, who lead a well known insurrection with fellow slaves and did a damn fine job. I talked also about Deslondes and the Louisiana uprising of 1811. The uprising was planned by escaped slaves who organized their maroon communities together to form an army and attempted to expropriate Louisiana from the slave holders and create a free Black republic. One of the leaders of the uprising was Charles Deslondes. And of course, I talk about Jean-Jacques Dessalines, slave turned military commander of the revolutionary Haitian army. Dessalines didn’t fuck around when it came to giving the slave states tastes of their own medicine. The image for the track is of Carlota, Afro-Cuban yoruban slave who led an uprising in the sugar mill Triunvirato. In the image, which is of a statue of Carlota taken from Cuba, where the statue resides, she is attacking a prison with her machete.

I think left folks and folks of all stripes should definitely be up on their history of slave rebellions and maroon communities. Their is no better history to provide fuel to the fire of the anticapitalist, anti-racist, anti-slavery struggles.

Lyrics:

**************************
Quilombo Dos Palmares On every block
We go and knock down the state, that’s how we rock
We funnel Maroon Spirit, topple the boss
We do it with machete, don’t use one shot

Quilombo Dos Palmares On every block
We go and knock down the state, that’s how we rock
We funnel Maroon Spirit, topple the boss
We do it with machete, don’t use one shot
***************************

Forged in the fires of Revolutionary France
People’s assembly had bourgeois elements
Angular blade for the good of decapitants
Razor sharp edge head locked in meant no crushing necks

egalitarian killing device
monarch commissioned he won’t use it right
Im glad for hearing him scream for his life
We’re down for steering it next to his wife

Abolish The Death Penalty,
Abolish All of The Police
Abolish Prisons that them in
Abolish Capital System

I done seen a litany of massacres from
Brittany to Damascus they slaughter their masters
And sow class disasters all across the pastures
its payback from Past scars

***************************
Quilombo Dos Palmares On every block
We go and knock down the state, that’s how we rock
We funnel Maroon Spirit, topple the boss
We do it with machete, don’t use one shot

Quilombo Dos Palmares On every block

We funnel Maroon Spirit, topple the boss
We do it with machete, don’t use one shot

I’m guillotine find me in seventeen nineties
Jacobin’s fine but they don’t define me
I’d Rather Be in eighteen o three with Dessalines
I Long to be with Deslonde in New Orleans

Guillotine from France they made me
but the real weapon machete
Slave master decapitater
Chop heads now and take names later

Wielded by the hands of enslaved revolters
Feel the same as when you chop upholders
peel the page back on the lies they told ya
Grab your machete make plantation smolder

Get Denmark Vesey all up on your ass
Zumbi de Palmares Nat Turner smash
Embody the struggles turn system to ash
dead bodies of capitals stalwarts amass

***************************
Quilombo Dos Palmares On every block
We go and knock down the state, that’s how we rock
We funnel Maroon Spirit, topple the boss
We do it with machete, don’t use one shot
